Technology is a fast-moving thing. One moment, we are convinced Tesla is streets ahead of all other electric vehicles. The next moment we discover there is a new competitor snapping at the heels of Aptera, Coda, Fisker, Faraday Future, and Tesla too. Considering Porsche was the last auto brand to launch successfully, why should we take the new electric car from Lucid seriously?
Is It in the Name of This Stunning New Electric Car
New brands choose their keywords carefully. ‘Lucid’ resonates with thoughts of bright and luminous, easy to understand, and piercingly obvious. Oxygen is in the air we breathe and float through in our dreams.
However, Lucid’s Model Air prototype is all of these and more. It stands poised to be the moment electric transport arrived in style.
Just imagine for a moment rocketing to sixty miles per hour, from a standing start in 2.5 seconds in blistering silence compared to fossil power. And while reclining in a rear seat that might drive a first class jet plane passenger wild with envy. The wood, felt, and leather interior belie the battery muscle under the floor. Okay we understand this new electric car is a prototype, but wow.
The Visionary Behind the Wannabe Best Car
The 400 horsepower, 400 mile-range ‘gentleperson’s limousine’ is the brainchild of chief technology officer Peter Rawlinson. He was previously vice president of vehicle engineering at Tesla, and chief engineer of Elon Musk’s Model S.
So we have a man with a vision, and the proven technical skill to get it right. Peter Rawlinson wants to ‘define new mobility experiences in the rapidly changing transportation landscape’. But will he get this right with his new electric car where others may fail. We have a strong suspicion he might. I want one please.
