It’s a great time to be a Torontonian for Toronto’s not one of the Top best cities in the world for nothing! It only makes sense that a city full of diversity and constantly thriving to be the best, would take on the challenge of becoming a Canada’s Greenest Employer!
More Info Please!
Well, sure! So here’s the deal: We know Climate Change and Global Warming plus a million other bad things are happening. So… do we let them happen? Do we fight them, do we adapt to them? There appear to be many things to do and the city of Toronto is trying to do something. As part of their TransformTO program, they have given themselves 3 years to make it on Canada’s Greenest Employer list and we think it’s great! Don’t worry, if some of these programs seem unfamiliar to you, we will be explaining them shortly…
TransformTO: City of Toronto’s Big Plan
Essentially, this is a plan or mission set out by the City of Toronto in order to help find solutions for Climate Change through setting goals and initiatives before the 2050 year mark (See Paris Agreement). Some of the goals people have voted for as most important include:
- More green spaces
- A better bike infrastructure
- A better transit system
- A completely walkable city
With the addition of course, of the Canada’s Greenest Employer goal!
Canada’s Greenest Employer List: What is it?
Now I’ve been talking about this list for too long and it’s time I explained what it actually is. It is not that much of a secret as its name tells it all but it has basically been running for 10 years now and essentially, it is a competition organized by the Canada’s Top 100 Employers Project. It was set up to recognize the efforts and impacts employers make in the environment in Canada. From Nation-wide programs to International Earth-saving initiatives, the Canada’s Greenest Employers are nothing short of impressive!
It’s exciting that Toronto has finally decided to step up its game and join the other cities such as Vancouver and Ottawa for this great list!
