It’s a tough old world for corporates when the media get their teeth into them. They have to play by the rules in terms of corporate good governance. While it may be said the media can play fast and loose as long as they have a source to quote. The latest round of Apple Watch criticism is a case in point. Let’s find out if this is major problem, or a few small issues blown out of context.
The Basis of the Apple Watch Criticism
News website Valuewalk.Com says Apple faces a lawsuit over “swelling Apple watch batteries”. It says the lawsuit “claims Apple knowingly ignored the problem which caused the batteries to swell and break the screen.”
This lawsuit apparently alleges the battery issue could affect all Apple Watch models “by causing the lithium-ion batteries to swell”. And the screen to “crack, shatter, or detach from the body of the watch”. This is through no fault of the wearer, it claims and “oftentimes only days or weeks after purchase”. Furthermore Apple “either knows or should have known about the issue”.
Apple Acknowledged the Issue Several Years Ago
This Apple Watch criticism is not new news. News website Valuewalk.Com concedes “the company extended the warranty on the Apple Watch Series 1”. This was to three years to address the battery issue. Moreover Apple reaffirmed this in 2018.
However, a problem arose when an Apple Watch owner took her device for a guarantee repair. She claims a swelling battery caused the screen to unexpectedly detach. The lawsuit alleges a Genius Bar staffer quoted an out-of-warranty fee of $229. There may be a dozen similar cases but that is hearsay evidence.
We shall be watching developments with interest. However for now this Apple Watch criticism is just that, an allegation. We should wait for the Court to decide whether users have really “gotten cuts and burns from the shattered or detached screens” as Valuewalk.Com reports witnesses saying.
