The Ademco Lynx is an alarm system manufactured by ADT. It aims to provide added security against burglary, fire and emergencies. It has a backup battery that looks like this. This battery enables it to function despite a power outage. The battery is recharged when the AC power is back on but it will need replacement after 3-5 years.
In case of a low battery problem, the keypad will display the LOW BAT sign without a zone number. It is usually accompanied by a warning tone that you can silence by pressing any key. Turn the AC power ON to recharge the battery. If the low battery warning is still on after 48 hours, the battery needs replacing.
To change the battery of the Ademco Lynx, follow these steps:
- Purchase a new battery for the Ademco Lynx.
- Place the system on test mode.
- Find the control panel box and open it to access the battery. It is usually in a closet, garage or attic.
- Remove the old battery by disconnecting the black wire from the same colored terminal. Next, disconnect the red wire from the red terminal. Use pliers with insulated handles to remove the wires from the terminals. If it is tight, wiggle it while gripping the connector. Do not yank on the wire. BE CAREFUL when you are removing the battery to avoid a short.
- Take off the plastic covering the terminals of the new battery. Connect the red wire first to the red positive terminal. Then connect the black wire to the black negative terminal.
- Close the control panel box.
- Allow the new battery to recharge for 1-2 days. If the low battery warning is still there after 2 days, there might be a problem with the system. Call the alarm provider.
- Recycle the old battery.
