So, for the past few months, our main focus has been on educating about the environment and Climate Change. We’ve written many posts about what Climate Change is, its emergencies,  and tips on how to adapt and mitigate to it. We’ve also discussed many ways the world is trying to be nice to the environment…through using solar powered devises and trying their best to be Eco-friendly.

Today we will be discussing something on the Eco-friendly spectrum of things. That is, how to make Eco-friendly cleaning products! In this post, we will be working on a DIY detergent!

What You Need to Know:

First things first, you should know why making them at home is more Eco-friendly and for that we have these three points:

  1. The toxic chemicals cleaning products get treated at municipal treatment plants and some of the chemicals become non-harmful. However, others get dumped in the closes waterways potentially contaminating the water and fish.
  2. There are many harmful and concerning chemicals and one is petroleum-based products. Petroleum is a non-renewable fossil fuel that is adding to the pollution in our environment and if companies keep making products with it, the effect will be worse!
  3. Let us not forget the countless plastic bottles used to make cleaning products and the landfills they fill!

Second, you need to know about the 3 main ingredients that can be main drivers of most of your Eco-friendly products:

  1. Baking Soda
  2. Vinegar
  3. Water
  4. BONUS: Essential oils if you’d like to make them smell nice.
