How Can We Know if Climate Change is Real

Amateur climatologists argue climate has always cycled between warmer and colder periods. They cite the seven ice ages over the last 650,000 years, and say we are simply entering another warmer phase. This is a convenient excuse offered up by the carbon majors in the oil and cement industry. How can we know whether climate change is real or not, for sure?

NASA Says Climate Change is Real and They Have the Facts

NASA says climate change is real because the increase is much steeper than earlier warmings. Moreover, it kicked in sharply at the time of the first industrial revolution. This was the point when steam machines needed energy from burning wood and coal.

Additionally, there is ample evidence of damage caused by industrial activity in the atmosphere NASA studies from orbiting satellites. Surely, this is a more compelling argument than wishful thinking by climate amateurs seeking to protect their own, narrower interests. In truth, we have known about the heat-trapping effect of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere since the 19th century.

More Evidence that Climate Change is Real on Earth

We will never be able to measure now what global temperature was a thousand years ago. However, we can observe its relative impact in ice cores from the poles and mountain glaciers. We can find further evidence in tree rings, ocean sediments, coral reefs, and layers of sedimentary rocks.

This paleo-climatic evidence confirms “current warming is occurring roughly ten times faster than the average rate of ice-age-recovery warming.” NASA goes on to warn climate change is real and accelerating. Because most of the 1.62° F (0.9° C) warming since the late 19th century occurred in the past 35 years.

The five warmest years on record materialized since 2010. Climate change is real on an unprecedented scale. When someone argues against this, you may find a self-seeking motive behind their behaviour.
