What Is ClimateLaunchpad
As the largest green business idea competition in the world, ClimateLaunchpad helps create opportunities for anyone to present and launch their green ideas. If the ideas are good enough, ClimateLaunchpad helps to then develop them and put them out into the world for the public’s benefit. Innovation and invention are highly promoted by them.
What is Climate KIC
Climate-KIC is part of the ClimateLaunchPad’s programs that gives innovators the chance to present ideas addressing climate change and its by-issues. They also promote Climate-KIC Accelerator, their business school programme for start-ups where great ideas grow into great businesses. Their funding is provided through the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, an initiative of the EU.
How To Enter The Competition:
As they say on their website, “anyone with a promising cleantech idea who dreams of becoming an entrepreneur should join.” This includes anyone from new start-ups, researchers, students, public organizations, engineers, or anything else. All you have to have is an idea, not even a business plan! Just an idea you truly believe in!
However, there are some technicalities you must abide by:
- You must apply within your own country
- Your company (if you have one) has to be fairly new meaning no older than 1 year
- You can’t have sold products on commercial terms
- You can’t apply if you’ve been accepted in previous years or if you’ve been accepted with the same start up idea through Climate-KIC Accelerator.
The 2017 competition
The competition will occur on the 17-18th of October this year in Limassol, Cyprus. 105 teams from 35 countries are entering this competition to pitch their green start up idea in order to get into the top 15 finalists. Then, those 15 finalists will present their ideas to a panel of judges and an audience of investors and researchers from all over the world. Stay tuned for a post on the winners after the competition is over!
