What’s The Hype About?

We wrote a little post about the 2017 Competition at the beginning of the year but if you missed that, don’t worry we’re written another description for you:

First Robotics is the highest level of robotics competition offered by FIRST. It is for high-schoolers of ages 15-18 who have an interest in working with teams to make some of the most impressive robots ever! They get 6 weeks to build their robots which have to be 5 feet tall, 140 pounds and able to take pressure in the intensely-fun robot sports! First Robotics Canada 2018 has competitions happening in 4 of Canada’s provinces: Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia!

The competition has a different theme every year. Last year’s theme was Steamworks. However, this year, the theme is “Power Up” as in the context of video games!

Check out the video below for the 2018 competition teaser:

Benefits:

The First Robotics competition is a pack of fun for sure. However, competitors get some life-long benefits besides all of that fun. These include:

  • Learning from professional engineers how to build and compete with a robot of their own design
  • Learning and using sophisticated software and hardware
  • Competing and cooperating in alliances and tournaments
  • Earning a place in the World Championship
  • Qualifying for over $12 million in college scholarships!
