FlixBus Tests Electric Buses in Europe

FlixBus is jumping on the electric vehicle bandwagon by creating their own line of electric buses! They successfully operated their first Flix-E-Bus during April of 2018 and this bus helps connect Paris to Amiens, France. A second Flix-E-Bus will roll out and hit the road between Hessen and Baden-Wüttemberg, Germany this summer.

What is FlixBus?

Since its inception in 2013, FlixBus has changed the way over 100 million people travel all across Europe. FlixBus prizes itself on being a combination of a “tech startup, e-commerce platform, and sustainable transportation company” whose main mission is to provide sustainable bus travel that is both comfortable and budget-friendly.

While FlixBus has its roots in Munich, Germany, it has now expanded to countries all over Europe like France, the UK, Spain, Croatia…etc. This year, 2018, they even expanded to the U.S!

Using Electric Buses

From the beginning, the FlixBus team has aimed to mix the traditional way of transportation with modern technology. They have done this with tech solutions such as the FlixBus App, e-ticketing, free Wi-Fi and power outlets. Expanding to e-vehicles, which will hopefully become the new way of transportation, seems just another step towards their modernization mission!

Long distance buses are a comparatively environmentally-friendly transportation choice even when powered by dirty diesel – taking the bus instead of driving your own (gas-powered_ car can reduce the CO2 emissions on a long trip by 80 percent, according to FlixBus. Imagine how much CO2 the new Flix-E-Buses will save.

“Although e-buses are currently much more expensive to buy, we are convinced that this will be a worthwhile investment in the long run, for our company, our customers and the environment,” said André Schwämmlein, founder and CEO OF FlixBus.

Shared mobility options such as buses are becoming more popular and in demand as they are seen as a more sustainable option.  “FlixBus is proud to be a pioneer in helping to propel this change by providing some of the most climate-friendly mobility options in Europe,” says André Schwämmlein, one of the founders.

Is it too soon to hope for an expansion to Canada?
