Fresh Water Out of Salt Water Experiment

You might be thinking that it’s difficult to get fresh water out of salt water.

Illustrated below is a simple experiment to meet above mentioned objective.

Material Required:

A Glass bowl

A spoonful of table salt

A glass

A plastic wrap

Water

Small pebble

Process:

Take a bowl and fill it with water. Mix a spoonful of table salt into it and stir well to dissolve the salt.

After mixing the salt, put a small empty glass (or cup)  inside the bowl, in such a way that salt water doesn’t get inside it.

Cover the bowl with the plastic wrap. Also put a small pebble in the middle of the plastic wrap, to make it slant right above the empty glass.

Keep the whole system under the sun for a few hours.

Results

In an hour, you can see water droplets on the underside of the plastic wrap.

After a few hours, you can see a little water inside the glass. The water inside the small glass is fresh.

Do you still think it’s difficult to get fresh water out of salt water?
