# 1: Screen Brightness is one of the biggest power guzzlers. Manufacturers sometimes set these to maximum to make us feel extra good about our shiny purchase. In Windows OS, go to display settings in control panel and set it down to the lowest tolerable level. You can significantly increase your battery life that way.

# 2: Defragmenting the hard drive helps a laptop use less energy to complete a task because it can find things easier. Check your schedule. You may have turned it off because it irritated you while busy with an important task. Don’t use your CD / DVD drive as storage. If a disc is present, it is using power even if you are not accessing it at the time.

# 3: Devices use electricity whenever the laptop handshakes. Keep them turned off and unplugged when you are not actually used them. Keep the sound turned down as low as you can tolerate. Make a habit of checking task manager to see which Programs / Applications are running in the background. Turn off anything you are not using at the time.

# 4: Laptop Ventilation is essential to prevent the battery from overheating. Keeping the temperature cool extends laptop battery life by avoiding unnecessary build-up of deposits on the electrodes.

Check the air vents for dust build up. Put the laptop on a firm surface, not, as the name suggests, on your lap.

Freelancing on a beach is great. Use an umbrella to protect your computer from the sun. Extend your laptop battery life a little more.

I tripped over a shrinking bank balance and fell into the writing gig unintentionally. This was after I escaped the corporate world and searched in vain for ways to become rich on the internet by doing nothing. Despite the fact that writing is no recipe for wealth, I rather enjoy it. I will not deny I am obsessed with it when I have the time. I live in Margate on the Kwazulu-Natal south coast of South Africa. I work from home where I ponder on the future of the planet, and what lies beyond in the great hereafter. Sometimes I step out of my computer into the silent riverine forests, and empty golden beaches for which the area is renowned. Richard
