It’s out first update 2018 for the beloved Hayden Robotics team! Be ready, it’s a packed one!
While the team enjoyed their time off during the Christmas break, they were definitely looking forward to getting back to school as that meant they could start building their robot! We can tell you that Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays are their favourites as those are building days! That’s right, the team members are willing to sacrifice their Saturday afternoons and that’s how you know they’re truly dedicated!
What Kind of Robot Are They Building?
The video below promotes the First Robotics competition and shows exactly what the teams need to do to make it as winners!
Anne, from the marketing team told us that their “goal this year is to pick up cubes, and put them into the switch, to gain ownership of it and to gain points per second. We also plan on specializing in having a very efficient cube ground intake, to put them through the portal to get points from the vault, earning all the power ups and boosts!”

The Details
The Electrical and Programming Teams: members from this team are testing the pneumatics (compressed gas) system, and testing the motors to turn it on and off. Programmers successfully got the joystick to work! They have also been working on getting the robot to drive straight, using a gyro sensor. They were also able to get encoders working! Encoders measure the distance the robot drives.
The Mechanical members: the members of this team have already built the base of the robot, and have been prototyping the cube intake, and a new climber design!
The Electrical Team: are waiting to wire the robot, and while they wait, they have been building the game pieces. They have successfully built a switch, and a vault!
Thanks for reading! Remember to check back for more updates from the team in the new few weeks!
