Did you ever wonder why only some car batteries catch fire and others seem to not? This is an intriguing question deserving of an answer. When we Googled “tesla car battery catches fire” in the past twelve months, we received 1.58 million answers with some quite dramatic images when we clicked. However, when we substituted “chevy bolt” in the string, we did not find a single one. Why was that?

Let’s Ask Torque News Why Only Some Car Batteries Catch Fire

We strolled across the street in cyber space to find out what their technical expert thought. We learned they too had been unable to trace a recent story of a Chevy Bolt battery catching fire after an accident. Although we knew there were a few incidents when the model was still new.

Torque News seemed somewhat reserved about the matter, although they did mention a discussion on GM Electric Vehicle Owners group on Facebook. Now we have become sensitive to finding fake news on social media. However, we grant the majority out there are decent people like you and we. This is what a representative of the Facebook group told Torque News in good faith. Please view the video first.

Do You Think This Is Why Only Some Car Batteries Catch Fire?

“The Chevy Volt and Chevy Bolt’s batteries are far safer than the Tesla batteries that burst into flame in the latest incident,” the Facebook group member said. “Tesla’s Panasonic cells are made with thin metal casings so that the heat from one burning cell causes the neighboring cells to burst especially when exposed to air in an accident.

“The Chevy Volt and Bolt’s battery cell casings are much thicker, and help prevent breaking apart due to impacts or heat and are also covered with fire retardant. Yes, the batteries of Volt and Bolt are more expensive than Tesla’s, Toyota’s, Nissan’s and Ford’s, and have heavier battery weight per unit capacity, but it has saved lives and properties.”
